Being Salt and Light: Where Can You Be Church This Summer?
I’m so looking forward to spending vacation time with my family at the beach this summer!
What about you? Do you have any special trips or adventures planned?
This summer we want to encourage you to take the church on tour and be the church wherever and everywhere you go!
Whether you are headed out to eat, going to the pool, off to work, or traveling around the world, this summer we want to encourage you to be aware, be involved and be connected.
First, be aware! This summer we are sending mission teams to Honduras, Shelby, NC, and Congo Brazzaville.
Second, be involved! Throughout most of the summer have weekly activities for fellowship and discipleship. The Summer Lunch Bunch and the Men’s Bible Study meets on Wednesdays. The Women’s Bible Study meets on Monday evenings. There are a lot of ways to be involved with your church family this summer.
Wherever you go this summer, put on a cool #FHBCSummerTour bracelet and take a picture while you are out and about! Post your pictures on social media and the hashtag #FHBCSummerTour!
In Matthew 5:13, Jesus says that we are to be the salt and light everywhere we go.
Each day we have the opportunity to share the light and love of Christ with those around us. Whether it’s an act of kindness, a word of encouragement or sharing our faith with another person, we are called to let others see Jesus in us!
Why salt and light? When you think about it, both salt and light were two vital commodities in Jesus’ day. Candles and lanterns were essential for travel. Salt was used to preserve valuable foods while they were transported.
In calling us to be salt and light, Jesus reminds us of the importance of taking our faith with us everywhere we go. The gospel is just as essential for life, true life, today as salt and light were in Jesus’ day.
As you travel this summer, be the salt and light Jesus is calling you to be! Let’s take the church on tour!
