FHBC CommUNITY News, May 21

The Gathering Place

Planning Ahead
The Gathering Place project is a statement of faith by members of all ages in the future of our great church. The planning team is also moving ahead on faith in the planning process, so that this wonderful new space can be ready for fall programming. To date 72 cards have been returned pledging over $215,000. Our goal is $350,000. Please pray about your investment in the future of Forest Hills and return your pledge card as soon as possible to Wendy Garrett in the church office. If you have any questions please contact any member of the campaign team: Dora Cornwell, Duff Freeman, Cheryl Hibbs, Taylor Freeman, A.G. Bullard or Alex Holmes.

Relocating the Library
We need your help to relocate the Library for the summer months.  We will be focusing on packing books and moving shelves to E-260.  To sign up to help, contact Stephen Edwards or Dora Cornwell.  Dates have changed and will be available soon.

Proposed FHBC LLIT Organizational Structure

LLIT Handouts Available Online

By now, the Lay Leadership Implementation Team (LLIT) hopes everyone at FHBC has had the opportunity to hear an update about the team's efforts to develop a new lay leadership organizational structure, in accordance with the IST motion approved by the church congregation in a vote last November.
On May 5 and 12, LLIT team members visited Sunday School departments and classes to provide handouts that summarize the top changes between existing and proposed
organizational structures along with schematic diagrams showing the differences.  Team members were also present in the 5-points area on May 12 to meet with anyone stopping by for more information and to ask questions.

A presentation with further details about the proposed structure is planned for this coming Sunday, May 19, at the church conference.  Please note this presentation is for information only, and no vote will take place on the structure.  Also, a listening session is tentatively planned for Wednesday evening, May 22, beginning at 7 PM following the children's music worship service. If you wish to provide comments or questions in writing, you can send them to fhbc.llit@gmail.com, an email account that is monitored daily.

Thank you for allowing the LLIT to visit and provide an update on our team's efforts.  We want your questions, and we need your feedback.  With God's blessings, we desire to have an organizational structure that will empower our congregation and its leaders to boldly and effectively carry out ministries both inside and outside of our community of faith, drawing others to experience the love and saving grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

ESL Program
Summer is almost here, and we are completing our year of 2012-2013 in Wednesday ESL.  We have had a highly successful year with great teachers like, Barbara Martin, Ruey Li, Debora Thomas, Julie Boyles, Phyllis Waggoner, David Rusnak, and helpers  like Tom Johnson, Asad Hashimi, Jason Payne, Matt Foley, Charlotte Holmes and Wilson Laney. Our students were really faithful this year and came regularly. Quite a claim for a volunteer ESL program! One of the joys and highlights was the relationships built among the participants. That is the necessary bridge for kingdom relationship building.

ESL/Bible is also going well and steady. Our 9:15 assembly room was full again this past Sunday. What a joy to tell people who never heard of Jesus about him, and to have a student come and ask for a Holy Bible in English and Chinese. God is Good.   –Glenda

Mother's Celebration Day at the United African Church

Mother's Day each year is a great celebration at the United African Baptist Church. The Praise Team continues to make difference in singing and the church is grateful to God for what is taking place now. The entire service was led by the women of the church who did a fantastic job. Deaconess Liliane Pambu who preached told the women to be Helper to their families, church and community referring to Genesis 2:15-18. We look forward to June 16, 2013 for Father's Celebration.

What's Happening at FHBC?
Many wonderful things are happening around here!  Here are three of them:

· On May 26, we will combine our Sunday worship services and meet in Fellowship Hall at 11:00 am as we observe the Lord's Supper together.
· On June 2, we will baptize at the close of the 11:00 am service.  We anticipate having several to baptize.
· June 9 will find us celebrating Graduate Sunday as we will have one combined worship service at 11:00 am in the sanctuary.  The youth praise band will be leading that service.

On much different note, as most of you have heard by now, my last Sunday as your Interim Pastor will be June 30.  I am grateful for the time we have had to share with each other.  You are a very special people.  Dianne and I appreciate the ways that you have welcomed and included us.  I pray that the Lord will bless you and enable the ministry and witness of this great church to continue to flourish as together you seek to be faithful disciples of the Risen Christ!
