Love Expanded--Jane's Trip Testimony

There is an American saying:  "every cloud has a silver lining" which meant you can find goodness in every bad thing that happens. This happened to me on my trip to China from April 1 to May 8th this year.

I took my mother with me for a month's trip of touring some of China's famous gardens.
My mother who is 84 years old was having a good time enjoying all the beautiful flowers and making new friends across several provinces in China. We took all kinds of train rides, you name it, fast train, bullet train, old train with mass seating, and train with hard and soft sleepers. You can imagine how excited we were in experiencing all these new things.

On the last week, we went to Hangzhou to visit the country churches as well as visiting some of the members' tea plantations. My mother ate all kinds of foods. She was not careful on eating what was put on her plate. In the Chinese culture, as a guest, your host puts foods on your plate. On the eve of our scheduled departure from Hangzhou back to Shanghai, she suddenly took ill, became dizzy with fever, diarrhea, and vomiting ensued by serious dehydration. When we arrived at the Shanghai hospital, she was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. Her blood pressure fell to 85/55 and both of her kidneys began to lose function.

While my mother was sick in Hangzhou, I was called to counsel the minister's family. The next morning before we departed to Shanghai, the minister with his wife showed joyful and peaceful countenance.  Because of my mother's extended stay in the hospital (we extended one more week for my mother to recover so that we can travel back home), I was able to preach at a house church and served the Lord the last Sunday. It was one of the most sweet worship experiences we all had. When we were about to leave for the airport, many told me how the Holy Spirit had worked among all of us and we all felt love, joy, and peace. Some of the attendees were my former ESL students who are now teachers and department heads at their prospective schools. God is so good. God definitely used my mother's illness to bless many. There was a silver lining in that cloud!

The Gathering Place

On June 2 a Special Called Conference was held to approve the overall design and cost of the Gathering Place including a financial/funding recommendation.  The motions were
approved by the congregation and construction will proceed on June 17.  The library is being relocated to E-260 and will reopen by June 24. To date 93 pledge cards have been returned pledging $250,363.  Please pray about your investment in the future of Forest Hills and return your pledge card to Wendy Garrett in the church office. Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network

It's Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) again.    WIHN is an organization of area churches pulling together to support homeless families that are determined to be self-reliant again.  We will partner with West Raleigh Presbyterian Church during the week of June 23 - 30.  Meals, van drivers and overnight hosts are needed, as well as abled    bodies to help with bed set up and breakdown,  just as in times past.   Talk with your    Sunday School class about this.   God may be calling you and/or your class to this ministry opportunity.  Our specific days are Monday, June 24, Wed., June 26, and Friday, June 28.    Call, email or see George Allen if you have questions or are wanting to reserve your spot!

Spain Mission Team

The Spain Mission team will be leaving for Vilanova, Spain on June 20th. Forest Hills is partnering with the Christian Church of Garraf to offer a two-week English camp for children in Vilanova, Spain.  The theme of the camp is Narnia, which provides lots of opportunities for teaching about Christian values.  Would you be willing to donate slightly-used or new children's books as a gift to the Spain church to use in their continuing ministry?  A box will be in the Five Forks area until Sunday, June 16th.  Preschool and young children's books would be appropriate.  Thank you for your help with this project. And would you commit to pray for our team, both as they prepare and as they travel? They will be returning on July 8th.

Fresh Expressions Coming to FHBC

Several months ago two van loads of FHBC members attended a Fresh Expressions Vision Day in Greensboro. This is a program that started in England and is designed to reach out to non-Christians and young people in a very different way.  We were impressed with the program and shocked by some of the information about the  numbers of young people involved in traditional church. Fresh Expressions highlighted that churches have to reach out to young people in a different way and meet people where they are outside the walls.  This program is sponsored by North Carolina CBF, National CBF, and the Virginia Baptist Association. Our own Ka'thy Chappell is the coordinator in North Carolina. We volunteered to host the next Vision Day at Forest Hills on August 16th (Friday).  Kath'y has offered a small meeting with the leaders and the Forest Hills team on the evening of the 15th.   The normal registration is thirty dollars for lunch, snacks, and material but since we are hosting, Forest Hills members can attend for $10.00.  NOTE: Use the following code to get the $10.00 rate for the day: "HOST"  Since this event in August is happening on our campus, we need volunteers to help welcome and host those who will be attending.  Contact George Ake if you are willing to help.

The one in Greensboro filled up quickly.  Register today so that you won't miss this wonderful and challenging opportunity!  For more information:
