Mission Trip: Wilkes County

Our youth group had a wonderful experience in Wilkes County on our in-state mission trip from June 23-28. We worked with children and senior adult ministries, led sports camps, and conducted some local service projects. God was at work!

Join us in prayer and preparation for our international mission trip to Cuba later this month.

College Ministry

College Ministry Work Week: July 28-August 3

We need help cleaning, painting, and decorating room S-309 ahead of students returning next month. The large room and accompanying smaller rooms will host small groups, storage, prayer space, and study space. Help is needed during these days and evenings. Donations of comfortable seating (sofas, loveseats, etc.) and desks or tables are also encouraged.

To volunteer, please sign up in the Gathering Place or contact Tyler Ward (tyler@foresthills.org).

Piano For Sale

A surplus Cable-Nelson piano in room S-309 is looking for a good home! If you or someone you know is interested in claiming this piano, please contact the church office.

Donations are accepted, and the recipient must arrange their own pickup (it's heavy!). The piano has some wear but is still functional.

Concert: Taiwan Aborigine Choir

Thursday August 7, 2014 @ 7:30 P.M.

Forest Hills is hosting a gifted choir of native Taiwanese orphans who will perform a concert for our congregation and neighbors. This is a community-wide event.

Save the date and start inviting friends!

Refugee Highway Partnership of North America

Check out the Refugee Highway Partnership of North America!  Our very own Jason Payne will be presenting a "Table Talk" that will briefly review general U.S. Resettlement with a focus on overcoming barriers to successful integration through employment, community connection, and managing expectations. Please pray for Jason and the tools that he will bring back for use in North Carolina and at Forest Hills, as well as the displaced refugees in our community.

According to the Refugee Highway Partnership of North America's website, "one of the key objectives of the Refugee Highway Partnership is to train Christians who seek to incarnate the Gospel by demonstrating God's love to New Americans. The North American Roundtable is a prime venue for this training, and it is largely through Table Talks that attendees learn best practices - not from theory-based lectures but through peer-led, experience-based group discussions around tables where diversity is modeled and every voice is equally heard."

To learn more about this organization, visit their website. You can also find out more about the Refugee Highway by watching the video here

Local Mission Opportunity

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in... The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" -Matt 25:35-36, 40

A local missions opportunity has come to us in which we can help "the stranger" - our neighbors 2.3 miles away. The entire Palms Apartments are scheduled for demolition and re-development at the end of this year, and the predominantly immigrant community living there is being forced to move. These newcomers to the U.S. need help relocating, transferring children to new schools, shoulder-to-shoulder prayer partners, and knowledgeable friends to help with all involved in finding new affordable homes in Raleigh. One of these families from Burma attends Forest Hills, and even obtained their U.S. Citizenship through involvement with the International Ministry. They need help and do not know where to start.

Is God calling you to help or lead the Team that is forming? Is the Lord leading you to use your knowledge of life in America to help others in temporary, but very real crisis? Please contact Jason (Jason@foresthills.org) as soon as possible to help lead this international ministry opportunity and reach out to the neighbors in our own backyard!

Welcome & Registration Team Forming

2-4 People Needed

Did you ever want to experience international missions but were uncertain if you had the time or talent? Let me assure you, you are talented and your gifted-ness is needed!

Welcome the world on the 3rd floor every Sunday morning! The International Ministry is seeking to establish a team of 2-4 people who can rotate to help with welcome and registration each Sunday morning.

Weekly, we have new folks from far off lands joining our Sunday ESL / Bible classes. On their first visit, a registration form is completed on arrival. For most, this is their first experience with "church" - so a smiling face and warm, hospitable welcome goes a long way to open the doors of the church and heart.

YOU are needed to help welcome and set-up the International Ministry welcome center from 9:00-9:30am on Sundays. Contact Barbara Martin , Glenda Reece, or Jason Payne to explore this ministry opportunity.

Ramadan Prayer Opportunity

Since 1993 Christians around the world have been specifically praying for Muslims during the month of Ramadan. The Farsi Fellowship is asking Forest Hills to commit to pray for Muslims to come to Christ during these 30 days. Many Muslims are truly seeking God during Ramadan. Please pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal Jesus to them.

This year Ramadan is from June 28 to July 27. If you would like more information or booklets to pray specifically, you can visit this website: www.worldchristian.com.

Watch this video to learn more about welcoming and praying for our international neighbors.
