Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child was a huge success this year! Forest Hills donated 351 boxes filled with toys, school supplies, and toiletries that will be sent to children in need overseas.

Grateful Hearts Through Children's Essentials

Children's Essentials is a unique community outreach ministry of Forest Hills which provides immediate emergency assistance to young children (such as clothing, cribs, and strollers). Assistance is only provided after referral from a designated agency, such as a hospital. One of our Children's Essentials volunteers described a recent meeting with a refugee family this way:

"I had the privilege of meeting with one of our Children's Essentials families this morning, and it was such a sweet experience from start to finish. Truly, it touched my heart in a very real way. The baby was just precious; he was sleeping the whole time and making those sweet squeaky noises tiny babies make every once in a while as he slept. The mother kept a kind, slightly timid smile on her face throughout the appointment. Her face lit up when I showed her the soft blue coat we picked out for the baby. She is a refugee and had a tough journey here from Honduras, but she is now being supported by a network of friends. I passed along the information about our church's ESL classes, and she accepted my offer of a Bible for her son. I then said a prayer of thanksgiving for the child--with the mother's permission--praising God for the wonderful gift of this beautiful boy. The mother hugged me, and we said our goodbyes. What a wonderful way to start my Wednesday!  I certainly pulled out of our church parking lot with a full, grateful heart."

Please be in prayer for this ministry, and for those working so hard to serve families in our community. If you are interested in donating to Children's Essentials, contact Sandra Haskins.

International Ministry

Global Gift

This is the story of Song Yangtao.  She was on the the International Ministry email list for ESL Bible Class on Sunday, and she answered an email we sent sharing the opportunity to participate in Stop Hunger Now.

The email announcement: "As you know, we will be having ESL/Bible classes this Sunday.  I want to begin collecting $.25 or any amount you might like to give to the project STOP HUNGER NOW.  Our church and all our ESL ministries are invited to pack meals,  about 25,000, to go to children around the world. The packing date is November 4."

Her Response:
"Dear Glenda:
I miss you very much! Can you still remember me, as I am just one of your student? The appendix is our photo. It's a so wonderful memory in my heart for all things in the church. Thank you and the Church do so much for us!
I am in China now, so it is not easy to donate. Would you please find a Chinese student or visiting scholar, so that I can pay him by weixin (a kind of APP very popular in China) and he pay the dollar to you?"

Her Chinese account is like our PayPal. The money came in from another Chinese ESL/Bible student.

When I put the jar on the table and walked away, I had no idea how many students put in money, but it was a lot.  I didn't count it, but there was a $20, several $5s, and many $1s, and that doesn't count the roll of quarters in a snack bag and lots of other change.  My jar was full!!   I went downstairs and put the cash in the Stop Hunger Now large jar. I am so touched by the student's care and generosity.

Service Opportunities

Children's Message

We'd like to increase the number of children's messages in traditional worship, but to do so we need additional volunteers to lead it. Would you be willing? We'll help you coordinate with the sermon, and help you with ideas if you feel stuck. Please contact Andrew for more information.

Van Driver For International Ministry

"Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." -Romans 15:7
Are you available the weekend of May 13-15, 2016 - that's right, next year?  Please prayerfully consider being a Van Driver and real life Christian example during the International Ministry Beach Retreat.  Contact Jason and we can help you to become an approved Van Driver too!

African Family Arrived - Help!

A family from Africa has arrived, two parents and four children.  They have the blessing of being "Green Card" Lottery Winners, which means they have documentation and can stay in the US indefinitely - but that's it!
They are currently staying with Pastor Ngoma's brother.  They need:
1. An affordable apartment
2. And also the furniture: beds, mattresses, clothes,
chairs, table and so forth

Can you help with a immediately with a housing lead or furniture donations? Would you like to be on a team to help this family? If so, please email Jason or Pastor Ngoma

Fantasia Noel

Come hear the Sanctuary Choir on Sunday morning, December 13th, as they present Fantasia Noel. Fantasia Noel is a collection of exciting arrangements designed to soar, lifted by the hearts and voices that sing them.  At the same time, its message keeps us firmly grounded and anchored by the message of love, hope and redemption that is the heart of Christmas. To think that God would show His love for us by providing a Savior...an extravagant thought describing an extravagant love.  Join us in celebration of His coming!

Silver Compassion

As you gather together with family this Christmas, you may want to begin conversations and planning so that you can share all of life with the people you treasure. The Silver Compassion team is offering you time to meet with Dr. George Fuller, one-on-one and free of charge, to look at your plans or to discuss issues of thriving in the second half of life. There are 10 places available, each offering up to 3 hours with Dr. Fuller. If you would like an appointment, contact Rogers & Sue Farr or Andrew Garnett.

Christmas Eve Offering

Each year, Forest Hills commits to meeting real, tangible needs through our Christmas Eve Offering. This year, our focus will be on supporting refugees who are resettling across the Triangle. Our offering will go towards supporting 2 organizations that support refugees in our area. The first is Welcome House Raleigh, a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship-affiliated short-term resettlement community right down the street from Forest Hills. The second is Church World Service's RDU Immigration and Refugee Program which pulls together local partners to resettle refugees across the Triangle. Please make plans to join us for our worship service at 5:30pm on December 24th in the Sanctuary.
