Thankful For God's Gift Of Christmas
Our Christmas Eve service last month saw hundreds of people fill the sanctuary as they worshiped, sang carols, observed the Lord's Supper and celebrated baptism. Additionally, over $8,900 was collected for two local organizations that minister to refugees in the Raleigh area. A spirit of worship and celebration was truly felt as those present prepared to welcome the Christ Child once again.

From Ninevah To Rome: Putting Jesus' Land In Context
The Judea that Jesus walked in, taught in, died and rose in was a key crossroad in the Roman Empire. This brief survey looks at the 700 years of historical changes between the fall of the Israelite kingdoms and Jesus' birth in order to help understand how his audience understood his teaching and his role. Learn why the Samaritans and Jews despised one another, who the Pharisees, Sadducees and Essenes were, and how the Romans came to govern Jerusalem. The books of Kings, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezra, Esther, Daniel and some of the apocrypha will be used as well as other historical and archaeological sources. Taught by John Reece.
Would you like to learn to paint or create other art forms? Arty Party encourages participants to create original works of art in a fun environment! All levels of experience are welcome, and instruction is provided. Led by Jerry Hester, this class meets every Wednesday in the Shepherd Studio (Hood House) from 6:00-8:30 p.m.
Children In Action
Children In Action is a mission focused group for boys and girls in grades K-5. They meet every Wednesday night 1/6 - 3/9, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Come join them as they study missionaries and ministry groups, make crafts, play games, and participate in mission projects and the Pinewood Derby. RA's/GA's will meet on the Children's Hall across from the Fellowship Hall.
International Ministry Open House
Your home decorated for Christmas is a gift that can be offered to Internationals! Many have never been invited into a North American Home, and even fewer have been invited during Christmas to enjoy the declarations that tell the story of our Savior's birth. This year we are so thankful to Pat and Asad Hashemi who opened their house for the International Ministry Christmas Open House! About 50 people from around the world visited, sang songs led by Hope Christian, played games led by Pat, and enjoyed fellowship together! Just as the unsung heros who offered their barn and manger to Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus, we're thankful for those who open their homes and welcome strangers with God's love and the Light of the World!
Did you know that the United African Baptist Church has a tradition of holding a Christmas Worship Service on Christmas Day in the Bunn Olive Chapel? This year the Youth lead in song, and the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was proclaimed! Hallelujah! For pictures, visit the International Ministry Facebook Page!
Children's Essentials Baby Shower
Children's Essentials is having a baby shower! Each year Children's Essentials supports mothers in need of the most basic items for their children. You can help by picking up a baby bottle to fill with your spare change, or by donating needed items. To pick up your baby bottle or list of needed items, visit the displays in The Gathering Place and outside the fellowship hall or visit the website! The displays will be available on January 24, January 31, and February 7.
On Sunday, January 10th, all Sunday School classes will meet as usual. There will be one service that will meet at 11:00am in the Sanctuary, as we ordain new deacons.
